Bhutan, the Kingdom that is nestled comfortably in the lap of the Himalayas is a land that takes immense pride in its traditional Buddhist culture and believes in not only preserving it but also imbibing it in today’s day to day modern lifestyle to achieve a beautiful balance of culture, tradition and modern living. Bhutan, a land that is high on the ‘Happiness Index’, is also a land worth exploring for its breathtaking views, monasteries, museums and ancient ruins. Day 1: Paro – Thimpu (50 kms/2 hrs)

Arrive at Paro Airport. The Cloud Itineraries representative escorts you to Thimpu by road (over an hour). You would have the rest of the day free to explore the city or just relax at the hotel.

Day 2: Thimpu

In the morning after breakfast visit Buddha Point (Buddha Dordenma); Memorial Chorten, a memorial stupa built in 1974 in the honor of the third king; the three-storied National Folk Heritage Museum; National Library of Bhutan, a fine example of traditional Bhutanese architecture. Later visit Motithang Takin Preserve, a wildlife reserve area for seeing the rare ‘takin’ national animal of Bhutan. Spend the evening exploring handicraft emporiums in the city.

Day 3: Thimpu- Punakha (85 kms/3 hrs)

Leave for Punakha (3 hours) after breakfast and visit Punakha Dzong (also known as Pungtang Dewa Chhenbi Phodrang meaning the palace of great happiness). Later visit Chimi Lhakhang, the temple dedicated to the famous Lam Drukpa Kunley or a divine mad man. Childless couples mostly visit this temple, which was built in the 15th century.

Day 4: Punakha- Gangtey- Punakha (75 kms/3 hrs one way)

After breakfast go on a full day Gangtey excursion. Gangtey Gompa in the Phobjikha Valley is a 16th-century monastery. It is the only monastery in Bhutan, which follows the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. The Phobjikha valley is home to rare Black Necked Crane, an endangered species, which migrate from the Tibetan plateau

Day 5: Punakha- Paro (130 kms/3-4 hrs)

Drive to Paro visiting Paro Chu and Wang Chu river valleys and the 1629 built Simtokha Dzong (Sangak Zabdhon Phodrang), en-route. Arrive Paro and visit Ta Dzong Museum (watchtower) built in 1649 and Rinpung Dzong, a Buddhist monastery of the Drukpa Lineage.

Day 6: Paro

Post breakfast; proceed for an excursion to Chele La Pass. Later visit Drukgyel Dzong, built in 1647 to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over the Tibetans and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan.

Day 7:Paro

Following breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
